A horse we did not bet is not a hit. A race we did not write is not a miss. The pass is the third result, and it is the one the horse grid is built to use. Most of a card should be a pass. The win pool takes its cut whether the trip was pretty or not.

Keeneland was dark Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday ran. The card was not written before the races, so the day is a pass. Zero bets. We do not go back and attach our name to a winner after the result is up. Naming the horse now would turn a pass into a fake hit. Friday’s ten passes stay on the tape for the same reason. A pass is a decision. It is not a blank we fill later.
